The tiny village of Lastingham is a beautiful quiet haven on the edge of the North York Moors surrounded by glorious countryside. Probably the most famous building in the village is the Crypt Church of St Mary with its ancient crypt. St Cedd founded a monastery in Lastingham in the 7th Century but it was destroyed in the 9th Century. Pickering is seven miles away and has a variety of amenities and attractions. The folk museum at Hutton-le-Hole and Eden Camp Modern History Museum give a tantalising glimpse into the past whilst the theme park at Flamingo Land offers thrilling rides and other activities. North Yorkshire has a multitude of activities and attractions to cater for all ages and interests and Lastingham makes a fabulous base.
