The delightful market town of Matlock on the edge of the White Peak offers many buildings of architectural interest, including an impressive parish church. The National Stone Centre, ancient "jitties" and courtyards, and the wonderful surrounding countryside including Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail are all waiting to be explored. Wirksworth is the home of the lively carnival that celebrates the ancient Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing, and the annual Arts festival attracts international performers of every kind. There are many opportunities for some great outdoor pursuits around here, including rock climbing, cycling and walking. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Matlock Bath and its cable car, Gulliver's Kingdom, and the newly restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway are all close by.
