Just two miles to the east of Pickering is the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale, set within the North York Moors National Park. Radiating from the attractive village green - which still has its original wooden stocks and a market cross – the town is made up from a jumble of streams and paths interlacing between pretty houses and leading to a wide selection of shops, pubs and tea-rooms. Nearby Pickering offers a good range of amenities, as well as the famous North York Moors Steam Railway. Above and below this pretty little village are broad fields, which make for incredible views across the Vale of Pickering and to the north is Dalby Forest, managed by the Forestry Commission with several excellent nature trails to be enjoyed.
