Local Area:
Set in a wonderful location, the market town of Ulverston continues to hold a street market every Thursday and Saturday, following an ancient local tradition. Today the settlement is perhaps best known as a festival town due to the many events it hosts throughout the year including walking and artfestivals in the summer months and the renowned Dickensian festival in late November. Ulverston is also famous as the birthplace of Stan Laurel and is now home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. Other facilities in the town itself include a wide range of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, a cinema and a leisure centre. All of the attractions of the nearby National Park can be easily reached either by car, bike or public transport whilst the Furness Coast boasts sandy beaches and good birdwatching.
