Set between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite is the stunning village of Braithwaite. With much of its traditional appeal, the village is enhanced by the Coledale Beck which runs through the town – an idyllic settlement with whitewashed Lakeland cottages, two village shops and two real ale Inns, each brimming with character. Between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, whilst visitors can also enjoy the picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake which is well worth a visit. All levels of walkers are catered for, from a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw. Also worth visiting is Mirehouse, a grand home and gardens on the shores of the lake with an open-air theatre.
