Situated on the west coast of County Clare, Spanish Point takes its name from the Spaniards who died there in 1588, when the Armada was wrecked during a storm. Today, the village is composed of several pubs offering live Irish music, a lovely beach - which is popular for swimmers and surfers alike - and a nine-hole golf course, which is said to be one of the oldest in Ireland. The small town of Miltown Malbay is only three miles away and provides a selection of shops and pubs. Also within easy reach is Lahinch, which caters largely for surfers.
