With a stone circle dating back to the Bronze Age, this quiet Dales village is of ancient origin and is thought to have been the site of a monastic settlement in the 12th Century. The village is now popular with walkers and steam-railway enthusiasts as the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam-Railway runs through the beautiful surrounding countryside. The railway also boasts award-winning authentic station buildings and a variety of steam trains. The Old Mill in the village is also a popular attraction and contains a needlecraft centre and coffee shop whilst the lively bustling market town of Skipton provides any other amenities a visitor to Embsay might need. Bolton Abbey, Kilnsey and Grassington are all within easy driving distance and are popular tourist attractions whilst the Dales is full of excellent walking opportunities.
