Set on the banks of the River Stour is the small market town of Sturminster Newton, reached via a six arch 15th Century bridge that carries a warning of deportation for those who damage it. This beautiful region is apparently where the author Thomas Hardy drew much of his inspiration and it is said that he wrote 'Return of The Native' whilst living in the town. The surrounding area is packed with thatched cottages, numerous rural walks, stunning views of the countryside, and fascinating towns such as Sherborne with its abbey and castle. The beautiful Dorset Heritage coastline is also within easy reach and not only offers great water sport opportunities but also great bird watching, making this an ideal base all year round!
