Surrounded by heather-clad moors, this region is popular for walkers who will be spoiled for choice by the many footpaths and trails across the countryside. For train lovers there are a variety of old engines running from nearby Lealholm, through the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby, calling at many pretty villages along the way. Linking with the ever-popular North York Moors Steam Railway at Grosmont, the Esk valley line is well worth taking a trip on.
