Local Area

Close to the historic border town of Oswestry lies the peaceful rural hamlet of Hengoed. The wonderful, picturesque region of Shropshire is also home to the famous village of Whittington - birthplace of the first Lord Mayor of London – and the charming town of Ellesmere. This beautiful part of the country is steeped in history – close to Hengoed is the original Old Oswestry, the site of a spectacular Iron Age Hill Fort, whilst Ellesmere is home to the lovely Church of Saint Mary, with its fifteenth century roof. The town also boasts a variety of shops, good pubs and restaurants and an abundance of entertainment on and around the nine lakes – leading to the area’s name of ‘Shropshire's Lakeland’. With so much to see and do in the region, visitors will be spoiled for choice.
