Local Area
:

The village of Newcastleton, or Copshaw Holm, sits a few miles from the border that divides Scotland with England in the Liddesdale Valley. Historically a region of strife with the arrival of the Romans in the 1st century, the subsequent Norman invasion and the cross border battles between English and Scots, Liddesdale is at the centre of what was known as the Debatable Land. The village today still echoes its rich history, and is famous for the nearby ruin of Hermitage Castle, an imposing and spectacular sight. The village is also popular today with its range of surrounding outdoor activities, from mountain biking on the 7stanes trails, to fishing, walking and wildlife watching.
