Situated along the North Eastern coast of Anglesey is the stunning Red Wharf Bay, whose Welsh name is Traeth Coch, meaning Red Beach. The bay is 4.5 miles long and is famous for its breathtaking sunsets. At low tide, almost 25 square kilometres (10 square miles) of sand is uncovered, which means that bathing, swimming and fishing can all take place. Birdwatching is essential around the bay with a number of birds and waterfowl, including the shell duck, purple sandpipers, grey plover, dunlin and oystercatchers all being regular visitors. The medival town of Beaumaris is only a short drive away and has a wonderful 13th century castle, shops, pubs, restaurants, museums and a golf course. Also sea fishing trips set sail from the town. There is something for everyone to enjoy within this part of Anglesey.
