Local Area
:

Dominated by its impressive castle, the historic market town of Alnwick is home to the Duke of Northumberland. To show off Europe’s largest cascading water-feature, the Castle Gardens opened in 2002 and also boast an enormous tree house, a lovely rose garden and a beautiful walled ornamental garden. Even those without green-fingers can enjoy these fabulous attractions, but younger visitors might be more interested in the castle itself – used to film the Hogwarts scenes in the ‘Harry Potter’ films. With its stone cross, the old market place is still a central feature of the town, and remains the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. With a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants, miles of golden sandy beaches and boat trips to the famed Farne Islands within easy driving distance, this wonderful old town is a great holiday destination.
