Situated just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake is the attractive village of Bassenthwaite itself. This charming settlement retains its traditional, rural feel and boasts a stream which winds through the outskirts of the village in addition to whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a well-maintained green and a real ale inn, full of character. Bassenthwaite Lake offers rolling hillside scenery and remains one of the most picturesque places in England. Points of interest nearby include Mirehouse - a grand home and gardens on the shores of the Lake - Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the wider region are within easy driving distance whilst the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep.
