Resting quietly, close to the impressive Manod and Moelwyn Mountains near the centre of Snowdonia National Park lies the old slate quarrying village of Llan Ffestiniog. Once the world's capital of slate quarrying, nearby Blaenau Ffestiniog was frequently referred to as the 'City of Slate' throughout the 18th century. The town now offers a good range of shops and pubs and the surrounding area boasts a variety of things to see and do such as tours around Llechwedd Slate Cavern, rides on the famous Ffestiniog Railway or walks through the incredible mountain scenery. Walking, mountain biking, sandy beaches, great fishing, and cycling facilities are all close by, ensuring that there's something for everyone regardless of the time of year.
