The village of Halford boasts an ancient church and stands close to the River Onny, which divides the village from the small market town of Craven Arms, a 12 minute walk away. This is an ideal base, with fine walks from the village to lovely Stokesay Castle, one of England's finest fortified manors, or the Shropshire Hill Discovery Centre, and just a short drive to Wenlock Edge. Church Stretton, known as Little Switzerland, is just a few miles away and nestles between the Long Mynd and Caradoc Hills, renowned for their scenic walks and excellent golf course. Craven Arms has some charming and historic houses, including a round house, thought to be a recognisable rest house for pilgrims travelling between Wigmore and Shrewsbury Abbeys.
