The small lough-side village of Mountshannon on the banks of Lough Derg has a shop and some pubs, and a small sheltered south facing harbour, as well as a small park. Mountshannon makes a good base for exploring Inish Cealtra, the Holy Island with some interesting ruins and a cemetery which is still in use today. Activities on offer locally include fishing, sailing, walking and cycling.
